About
Thanks for visiting my little corner of teh internets.
What is Aztalan Turf?
Aztalan turf is a phrase from a Garbage b-side called All the Good in This Life. It's one of those slow, moody, stripped-down songs that gets mixed reviews from fans. I don't actually know what it means. My guess is that it may be a reference to Aztalan State Park or Aztalan Race Track in Aztalan, WI (just East of Madison). The full verse is this (as confirmed by Garbage engineer Billy Bush):
No one can stop you nowI love the song and I'm also a Wisconsin native, so it seemed like an appropriate name for my site and podcast.
Anymore than they can tell the wind not to blow
Who's going to run to you now?
With the riders in the dirt back on Aztalan turf
I can't tell you what to do
You're free as a bird
Go do what you've got to do
Who am I?
I'm a music lover, an athlete, a techie, a musician, a metal head, an artist, an introvert, a biker, a rivet head, a Sarah Connor Chronicles fan, a Classical scholar and a stoic living in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis / St. Paul, MN.
Music is my life blood and that's mostly where my focus is on this site. I needed an outlet. My "real life" friends just smile and nod when I start talking about music. So this is where I'll be posting my thoughts, reviews, lists and other random ramblings and maybe someone out there in Internet Land will find those thoughts interesting. I hope you'll stick around and enjoy the ride.
The Podcast
Back in my college days, I hosted a radio show on the school's very low powered FM station. As I began listening to various Internet radio stations and podcasts like The Ungodly Hour in about 2007, I really started to miss broadcasting. I spent a few years toying with the idea of starting my own podcast and thanks to the support and nudging of people like Joe Graham of The Razor Blade Dance Floor and rE\dOx of The Ungodly hour, I finally took the plunge in March of 2010.
The Aztalan Turf Podcast has two distinct goals:
- Promote and support independent artists and labels that are releasing what I feel is interesting music
- Provide an outlet where I can communicate with other musically open-minded people and share my love of music
Thanks for listening.
